RICHBURG — When Steve Taneyhill played quarterback at South Carolina, he famously signed the paw at Clemson’s Death Valley after leading his team to a victory over the Tigers.

With their second straight convincing road win over Lewisville, his Chesterfield Rams have effectively done the same thing to the Lions’ home turf.

The Rams followed up last year’s 35-6 playoff win with a 34-0 Region 3-A beating Friday night to put their stamp on Lewisville’s Homecoming.

The Lions had Chesterfield’s number for years, including a win in the regular season last year, until this current two-game streak.

This was the Lions’ first region loss and puts in jeopardy their quest for a fourth straight region title. The Rams, meanwhile, will face their second straight area rival next week as Great Falls will pay them a visit.

“Last year, we lost to both these teams and it made our road tough in the playoffs,” Taneyhill said. “We’d like to have a home playoff game.”

Lewisville couldn’t get anything going as they had 40 yards, three first downs, and nine penalties on the night.

“Our defense is good, too,” Taneyhill said. “Everybody wants to talk about offense, offense, but our strength is our D. Lewisville has a talented team.”

Chesterfield’s defense did pitch a shutout, but just as impressive on the other side of the ball was Derrick McQueen. The junior running back had 25 carries for 228 yards and two TDs. After a scoreless quarter and a half, he took a handoff 32 yards for the opening score with 6:10 to go in the half.

The Rams got the ball back 1:30 later as Lewisville’s Isaiah Johnson fumbled at the Lions’ 31. Two carries and one dazzling run later, McQueen was back in the end zone for his second TD in two minutes and 15 seconds.

After another three-and-out by the Lions, the Rams scored again as Akeem Johnson hooked up with Dantrell Lewis for a 15-yard score with 46.7 seconds left in the half. The Rams also tacked on another score with 2:10 left in the game as Johnson tossed a 10-yard TD to Jonathan Murvin.
