MATTHEWS, N.C. — Brodrique Moore had another strong game as Westminster Catawba rallied to their second straight victory by defeating Carmel Covenant, 14-12.
The Indians scored first on a 32-yard run by Moore, with Will Pickel tacking on the extra point and making the score 7-0 with 1:17 left in the first quarter.
“He (Moore) had a coming-out party last week,” Westminster Catawba coach Ben McGarity said. “I told him it was time for him to shine.”
Moore wasn’t finished. After Carmel scored their second touchdown to take a 12-7 lead late in the third quarter, he answered immediately with an 85-yard kickoff return for the score. Pickel’s PAT was the game’s final point.
The fourth quarter wasn’t without drama, despite the lack of points scored. With time running out, Carmel moved the ball inside Westminster Catawba’s 20.
“We made some adjustments in the last series,” McGarity said. “We changed some of our calls.”
After the next two plays resulted in negative yardage, Moore closed the game by winning a jump ball and coming down with a game-clinching interception.
“Brodrique wanted it more than their receiver did,” McGarity said. “We won the fight late in the ballgame.”
